The LGBT National Help Center offers free and confidential support and information for LGBTQIA+ individuals. Offers video and PDF resources in English, Spanish, and Portuguese defining basic terminology that is important to know when working with people who have diverse sexual orientations or gender identities. When treating minors, mental health providers Supporting Black youth mental health may have to navigate conflicting ethical and legal obligations.16-20 Having a signed parental agreement of privacy allows a mental health provider to protect the trust of a young LGBTQIA+ client and adhere to federal and state laws.

They provide LGBTQ-positive diagnostic assessments in addition to multiple outpatient treatment programs regardless of patient ability to pay. Accessing Mental Health Care
Everyone has mental health, but it can look different based on cultural factors and social group identities like sexual and gender identity. Our National Advice and Support Service can help you and people you care for with mental health concerns and money worries. Family acceptance and support is a big protecting factor for the mental health of LGBTQIA+ people.
Anxiety and depression are two of the most common form of mental health conditions, both in the LGBTQ+ community and in heterosexual, cis populations. Because every person’s journey is different, supportive care should meet people where they are and honor their individuality. The mental health concerns outlined here affect people everywhere, but they can be especially common in LGBTQ+ communities where added stress, discrimination, or lack of acceptance often weigh heavily.
